  Avoid this place like the plague!
  
  I deeply regret having purchased my fireplace insert at this disreputable firm. I have had nothing but trouble with them. First, they are not certified to work with gas--despite selling gas logs, stoves, and fireplaces. When the installer came 2 years ago he almost refused to install it, despite the fact the gas line was already in place. When I told him that he could then take the product back and give me a refund, he relented and installed it.
  
  It worked for about 3 months but then the thermostat and remote stopped working. It took two weeks to get service. When the guy showed up he did not have the right parts with him despite my telling the appointment scheduler what the problem was. As a result, the technician just put a rubber band around the battery pack and left. When I called Amanda's and spoke to the owner, he told me they would make it right. I never heard from them again. So I lived with the rubber band fix for a year.
  
  Well, it is broken again. So I called and scheduled an appointment--it was for a week away. But then that was cancelled due to a snow storm. So I rescheduled. More snow. Another cancellation. So I scheduled yet another appointment, again for a week later. I asked what time of day the technician would arrive--since I have a job and needed to schedule around the appointment. I was told I would be the first person on the schedule--the technician would be here around 8:30 in the morning. So I rearranged my meetings so I could be home during the morning to get the repair done, at long last.
  
  Today is the day the technician was supposed to arrive. It is now 11 am--no technician. I called Amanda's 45 minutes ago--they rescheduled me for the afternoon because one of their technicians called in sick--but they never called to tell me that. I am furious. I spoke to the owner, and while he claimed to be apologetic, he told me it was all beyond his control. He also did not really seem to care or appreciate the fact that they have inconvenienced me massively. It appears the folks at Amanda's believe their customers sit home all day, with nothing to do but wait for technicians.
  
  Bottom line--bad products and even worse service with no appreciation for their customers whatsoever. Next stop for this review? Angie's List and any other venue I can find.
